Level 3 · Lesson 5.6

High-to-Low Slides

On a shot-pass from the point to the back door, read it, rotate, and slide diagonally back to the post instead of straight across.

Part of Lesson 5 · Advanced Movement. Moving like an advanced goalie: every push, slide and rotation starts and ends in the right stance for the situation and takes the most direct route, with your weight centered, your whole body arriving square, and your legs ready before the puck moves. It's the same order every time (look, rotate, load, push, stop square), started a little earlier and aimed at where the puck is going next.

On a high-to-low play, a defender at the point shoots the puck (a shot-pass) to a teammate's stick at the back door. The receiver is lower and closer to the goal line than the passer so the shot will come from a much lower spot. High-to-low means two things here: the puck going from high (the point) to low (the back door), and you going from a high stance on your feet into a low slide.
